SPENDING 3 AMAZING RELAXING DAYS IN LUANGPRABANG

Luang Prabang is an outstanding example of the fusion of traditional architecture and Lao urban structures with those built by the European colonial authorities in the 19th and 20th centuries. It’s unique, remarkably well-preserved townscape illustrates a key stage in the blending of these two distinct cultural traditions.

 

DAY 01 – ARRIVE IN LUANG PRABANG

Arrive Luang Prabang welcome and transfer to hotel for check in. Next, we set out for a sightseeing tour, which includes stops at important Luang Prabang temples like Wat Visoun (known as the ‘Watermelon Stupa’ on account of its spherical shape) and Wat Mai. We’ll also see the 16th-century temple Wat Xieng Thong, which epitomizes all the elegance and grace of the city’s architecture.

Other stops include the National Museum and the former Royal Palace, home to a collection of valuables including the famous Prabang Buddha statue as well as gifts received from foreign dignitaries. A H’mong market and a craft shop are also worthwhile stops. Overnight in Luang Prabang.

DAY 02 – LUANGPRABANG – PAK OU CAVE – KUNGSI WATERFALL (B/)

After breakfast at the hotel.

Transfer to the pier for a boat trip on the Mekong River to visit Pak Ou cave with thousands of antique Buddha images. On return, stop to visit Ban Sanghai local rice whiskey distillation village and ancient pottery village.

Drive 30km south of Luang Prabang to visit Tad Kuangsi waterfall deep in the forest. Then visit local villages of Lao Loum, Lao Kang and Lao Soung (the three main ethnic groups of Lao). On return to Luang Prabang.

We end the day by walking up Phousi Hill – the 328 steps lead to the summit and provide the finest panoramic city view. Free time to shop and wander. Overnight in Luang Prabang.

DAY 03 – LUANGPRABANG – DEPARTURE (B)

We have an optional early wake-up call to participate in giving food to hundreds of Buddhist monks returning from dawn prayers. Otherwise, we take a stroll through the morning market. We then head back to the hotel for breakfast.

Free until transfer to airport flight to next destinations.
